April Buys

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

This was selected by my 9 year old. It is also a EBOB (Elementary Battle of the Books) selection in NC for 2013/2014.

Dragonbreath (Book 1) by Ursula Vernon

My pick for April. I prefer dinosaurs but dragons are a close second (as are iguanas).

Goosebumps: Deep Trouble by R.L. Stine

The 5 year old picked this book. It will takes us a month to read it, but I love his enthusiasm for chapter books.

7 Random Questions with Jean Reagan

Jean has written an adorable picture book that my family picked up on March 7th. My five-year-old loves the humor and the silly artwork (illustrated by Lee Wildish). We can't wait for Poppy to visit so we can share this wonderful book.

7 Random Questions with Jean Reagan

1-What’s the last book you bought?
And Then It's Spring by Julie Fogliano, illustrated by Erin E. Stead.  I bought it for my daughter's 25th birthday 'cause I always give her a picture book in addition to something more "age appropriate!"

2-If you had to dedicate your book to a thing (and not a person), what would that thing be?
A canoe.  Each summer I serve as a wilderness volunteer ranger in Grand Teton National Park and I patrol by hiking and by canoeing.

3-What’s an interesting tidbit readers might not know about you or your books?
There's a photo on my website of Katherine Paterson reading to my sister and me when I was about three (over 50 years ago!).

4-If you could have any career, what would it be? (And it can’t be “author”.)
A full-time, year-round national park ranger.  How cool would that be?

5-Do you prefer the sunrise or the sunset?
In theory I prefer a sunrise, but in reality I enjoy sunsets much more frequently than I do sunrises.

6-What is the name of the protagonist in your work-in-progress?
Sparky.  The story is about a dog who's afraid of the water.

7-What’s your favorite word?
Besides, "chocolate," my favorite word is "discombobulated."  Sadly, I haven't yet figured out how to work it into a story.

IT'S WORLD BOOK DAY

I just learned on Twitter (where I get most of my news) that it's World Book Day. I don't really know what this means, but I'm excited because today is also our monthly book buying day.  It's almost like I planned these events to coincide.

Here's the website for WORLD BOOK DAY. Looks like there's lots to navigate through for readers and writers. http://www.worldbookday.com/

If you are new to I WILL BUY BOOKS my goal is simple. We need to revitalize the book market. So take the pledge with me and help save an industry.

Raise your right hand:

I, (insert name), will BUY a new book on the 7th of the month. Paperback, hardcover, e-book, or audio, it doesn't matter. Purchased in a bookstore (independent or conglomerate), online, at the grocery store, in an airport, at a big box store, it doesn't matter. Fiction, nonfiction, it doesn't matter. And if I am a parent (which hopefully I know if I am) I will buy a book for my child as well.

Thank you for helping change the literary world. (Results not guaranteed.)

I will be visiting a bookstore this afternoon to purchase books for my 3 children. I'll let them pick. But I already know what I'm buying for me.

Ruta is amazing and I hope she will answer my questions later in the month.

Happy New Year (and lets try this again)

2013 - in the Pepperonian Calendar, it is the year of the book. So I shall try once again to blog about books in this new year. Buying books isn't the difficult part. That's fun and easy, especially thanks to credit cards. I think we can have some fun with this in 2013. We need a month devoted to non-fiction and a month devoted to debut authors. So spread the merry word and make book buying cool.

And remember you are totally encouraged to buy books on any day of the month, but we vow to always buy on the 7th! (At least we will try.)

The 7th Has Come and Gone

Due to a nasty stomach bug I didn't get to post (or harass anyone) yesterday. I hope millions of books were purchased around the world. I know of at least two that were purchased through the "I Will Buy Books Movement." (Thank you, Karen!)

My family purchased through amazon. We selected 5 books and 1 DVD, which was suggested by Amazon and my 4 year old couldn't resist. I will post next week when they arrive and hopefully I can get a few authors to answer my seven silly questions.

Happy Reading!
